Senator Edward Kennedy succumed to brain cancer at the age of 77. He served 46 years in the US Senate. During his political career Senator Kennedy was an advocate for civil rights, education, labor, voting rights, and health care reform. President Obama issued a statement expressing admiration for the senator, “Our country has lost a great leader, who picked up the torch of his fallen brothers and became the greatest United States senator of our time.”
