SUSAN SAULNYChicago’s ‘Mayor for Life’ Decides Not to Run, September 7, 2010

Prior to living in Brooklyn, both Nora and I have lived in Chicago for quite sometime. For that reason, this article caught my eye this morning: Shock over Mayor Richard M. Daley’s news spread all the way to Washington, where the White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, has said he would like the job. This timeline highlights a few of the milestones in Mayor Daley's influence on the city of Chicago over the course of his leadership.

Richard M. Daley was Chicago's mayor from 1989 to 2011. The day after Christmas, he will become the longest-serving mayor in the history of the city.
